Buying & Registering Domains
The majority of the best domains are not available for registration, but let’s not forget that there are still plenty of valuable domains that are available and just waiting for you to register them. In fact, I’ve made plenty from “hand-reg” domains, short for hand registered. Some of our favorite registrars are listed further below.
When considering domain names that are not available for registration, another option is buying premium domains for a fixed price from one of the registrars or a domain marketplace. In the case of marketplaces, they also allow you to make an offer on many domains.
Our Favorite Domain Name Registrars
- Domain Turnpike – Best GoDaddy Reseller
- GoDaddy – Most Popular (better prices at Domain Turnpike)
- NameCheap – Discount registrar. Offers free logo maker.
- Dynadot – Another discount registrar
- Domain Reseller Accounts – If you want your own domain reseller account
Domain Marketplaces
Domain Auctions & Drop Catching
Most domain marketplaces have domain name auctions in addition to fixed price, make an offer, or OBO listings. Domain auctions include investor/end user controlled domains as well as expiring domains controlled by the domain registrars. Expiring domains, drop catching and the domain name lifecycle will be covered in more depth. Domain auctions are a great way to acquire deals if you are disciplined and don’t over bid.
Expiring Domain / Drop Catching Resources
Drop catching, back orders and expiring domain auctions can be invaluable to domain investors since this how the majority of quality investments become available.
